How do I move a program from my hard drive to an external hard drive? - program

I have some very expensive programs that can not afford to lose (I have the original CD), so I want them on my external hard drive to transfer a system back to factory settings, because nothing worked for my laptop works back to normal. I tried many antivirus programs, uninstall any programs that I use the repair utilities, and nothing works. Please help.
